Founded in 2017, Althion is created by Surya Rao: it aims to develop ultra-high purity systems for various verticals-industries; healthcare and biotechnology, and high-end electronic semiconductors. Currently, the startup operates as an important player in the “water tech” landscape which focuses high-quality, reasonably priced answers to the increasing quest for the reliable water purifying solutions. Althion’s products are particularly vital for dialysis centers, research laboratories, and hospitals, where the quality of water is critical for operational efficiency and patient safety.

Althion has just received funding in order to pilot the manufacture of 40 units of its highly innovative tabletop laboratory water purification system. The initiative is also going to significantly enhance water purification processes, in terms of how they can be accessed and more efficiently executed in different venues. Moreover, the allocated funds will be used towards further research and development in streamlining kidney dialysis solution solutions for the healthcare sectors that face this urgent situation.

The company is also looking at the scaling of its operations with the establishment of a larger manufacturing facility. This will increase its production capacity but also make Althion in a better position to respond to the ever-increasing demand for its products within India. The company has already received attention from top healthcare institutions, including Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Homi Bhabha Memorial Cancer Centre, and Narayana Hrudayalaya, who are using Althion’s solutions.

Innovation commitment by Althion is well-illustrated by its proprietary Althion Remote Monitoring System (ARMS). This advanced system helps in predictive and preventive maintenance to ensure that its water purification systems operate at their best. In this way, it minimizes downtime and maintenance costs to give Althion an edge in the market.

It is coming at a time when the world is crying for quality and affordable solutions because of the water crisis all over the globe.  Althion hopes to cut across a gap created by the very high cost-effectiveness via economical as well as reliable products.

Moreover, Althion has been supported by BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council) for developing its products, especially its tabletop and kidney dialysis products. The company has also obtained seed funding from C-CAMP (Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms) in Bangalore and AIC CCMB (Atal Incubation Centre, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology) in Hyderabad.

Looking forward, Althion is cleared for funding towards obtaining CE marking and USFDA certification. This will enhance the opportunities for international markets across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. This should bring more opportunities for expansion, while at the same time propelling Althion as a global player in water-tech.

In a nutshell, it is through such a funding round that Althion takes forward its mission to revolutionize water purification systems. Innovation quality and sustainability mark Althion’s stride to meet the paramount challenges in the water-tech space and thus help in improvement of healthcare outcomes and the environment.
