Platform ticket prices for Mumbai Central, Dadar, Borivali, Bandra Terminus, Vapi, Valsad, Edna, and Surat have been increased to ₹50 during the holiday season.
To ease congestion at stations during the festive period, Western Railway has increased the price of platform tickets at selected central Mumbai stations to ₹50 by the end of October.
Fares are valid at all busy hubs of long-distance trains until 31st October. Central Railway’s Chief Public Affairs officer Shivaji Starr declared “The hike was done because of the heavy passenger flow seen during the holiday season.”
“In view of the festive season rush at railway stations and to regulate the number of passengers on railway premises, it’s been decided to increase the rate of platform tickets from ₹10 to ₹50 over a few nominated stations of Western Railway’s Mumbai Central Division till October 31,” stated by Shivaji Starr.
The hike was performed when a strong passenger storm was observed in the middle of the holiday season. Such temporary platform ticket price increases have been made several times by Mumbai’s Zone Railways in the last two years.
With visitor traffic soaring during this festive season, railways are taking various measures to control and regulate crowds at stations. Appropriate train inquiry and announcement systems are ensured and all train information boards are in good working order and display up-to-date information.
The terminal station will have a mini control room with designated operational, commercial, mechanical, engineering, electrical, RPF, and medical personnel. These well-equipped mini-control rooms have facilities such as telephones, train information, electrical cabinet connections, platforms, and CCTV feed of the circulation area.
