Users have not been able to send or receive messages on the platform for more than two hours, the longest in WhatsApp history.
The meta-owned communication platform WhatsApp has partially returned to users after crashing across India since 12:00 noon.
WhatsApp web users were also unable to use the service. Meanwhile, Twitter is flooded with reports of the WhatsApp service being shut down. #whatsappdown is gaining popularity on Twitter with over 41,000 tweets. The user said they could not send or receive messages.
According to DownDetector, more than 28,000 users reported issues to WhatsApp between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM. The site has confirmed that WhatsApp is facing downtime. He received reports from Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, and Lucknow.
Overall, 69% of users said they couldn’t send messages. Nearly 21% said they had problems connecting to the server.
This is WhatsApp’s first major power outage since last year’s massive power outages took Instagram, Messenger, Oculus, and Facebook offline. The glitch was fixed and it took almost 6 hours for WhatsApp to come back online.
A Meta spokesperson said, “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible.”
