An official said on Thursday that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 81 crore to Tripura for the construction of 274 solar microgrids in remote parts of the northeastern state to power over 9,000 homes.
The microgrids will be established in hamlets in Dhalai, Unakoti, and South, West, and North Tripura districts where “conventional electricity appears non-profitable” to the state power utility due to low population density, according to the Ministry of Development of Northeast Region (DoNER) project.
“The Department of Energy and Natural Resources has sanctioned Rs 81 crore to Tripura for the establishment of 274 solar microgrids in remote areas, particularly tribal hamlets, where conventional electricity has not yet reached the people.” The initiative would assist a total of 9,250 people, according to a Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) official.
Due to geographical remoteness and low population density, the northeastern state still has some tribal and non-tribal habitations where electricity has not yet reached, he said, adding that the initiative would light up the dwellings using solar power.
“Depending on the population of a particular habitation, each solar microgrid will have an installed capacity ranging from 2 KW to 25 KW. Although the tariff has not yet been finalized, the recipient will be required to pay a small amount for electricity usage,” he said, adding that work would begin in the current fiscal year.
According to TREDA, the northeastern state has a solar power potential of 2,000 MW, of which only 19.50 MW is now being produced.
Tripura Energy Vision, which aims to generate 500 MW of solar electricity by 2030, was recently launched by the state.
Humans have a proclivity to use unnatural practices on nature, harm it, and then use technology to fix it. We’ve been in the loop for a long time. Our forefathers never bet on coal or petroleum.
They were reliant on the Sun. What’s more, guess what? That is the answer we need. Instead of becoming caught in a never-ending cycle of injuring and repairing nature, we may utilize nature to suit our needs. Solar energy is the solution to breaking the never-ending loop that is causing global warming.
With global warming and pollution reaching hazardous levels, solar energy is becoming more important. We are all the protectors of our environment and must accept our obligations.
Solar energy is a free and limitless source of energy that should be used. Many educated people are already aware of this, and numerous businesses have begun to apply it as well. Solar panels are not only simple to install, but they are also a solution to global warming.
