The New Generation AKASH missile is successfully tested by DRDO against fast-moving unmanned aerial vehicles. A successful flight test verified the AKASH-NG missile’s whole armament system.
At 10.30 a.m. today, the New Generation AKASH (AKASH-NG) missile was successfully tested in flight off the coast of Odisha from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
The flight test was carried out at a very low altitude against a fast-moving unmanned aerial target. The weapon system successfully intercepted and destroyed the target during the flight test.
The DRDO’s ongoing efforts to strengthen India’s domestic defense capabilities are demonstrated by the successful testing of the AKASH-NG missile. The entire weapon system, which includes the missile with the locally designed Radio Frequency Seeker, Launcher, Multi-Function Radar, and Command, Control, and Communication system, has been verified to be operational.
The Ministry of Defense said in an official statement that it has verified the operation of the entire weapon system, which includes the missile with the locally designed Radio Frequency Seeker, Launcher, Multi-Function Radar, and Command, Control, and Communication system.
The data obtained from various radars, telemetry, and electro-optical tracking systems used by ITR, Chandipur, was also used to validate the system’s performance.
Senior representatives from DRDO, the Indian Air Force (IAF), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) saw the flight test. A cutting-edge missile system that can intercept swift, agile airborne threats is the AKASH-NG system.
User trials have been made possible by the successful flight test. A cutting-edge missile system that can intercept swift, agile airborne threats is the AKASH-NG system.
Rajnath Singh, the Union Minister of Defense, has praised the industry, PSUs, the IAF, and the DRDO for the successful flight test.
He declared, “The system’s successful development will further enhance the nation’s air defense capabilities.”
Secretary, Department of Defense R&D, and Chairman, DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat also complimented the teams engaged with the successful flight test of AKASH-NG.
This achievement highlights the DRDO’s commitment to creating cutting-edge missile systems that can successfully handle modern security issues, as well as the nation’s resolve to self-reliance in defense technology. The AKASH-NG’s adaptability and preparedness to address changing defense requirements are demonstrated by its ability to intercept fast-moving targets at extremely low altitudes.
