In Uttarakhand, India is getting ready to introduce its first Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), as stated by Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Civil Aviation. Accident victims within 150 kilometers of AIIMS in Rishikesh will be able to be airlifted to the medical facility by the HEMS, which will be based there. This program is a component of the government’s endeavors to broaden medical outreach and trauma treatment offerings, guaranteeing the prompt transfer of patients from mountainous areas to AIIMS for essential care in the ‘golden hour’ following an accident.
According to Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Civil Aviation, India is planning to introduce its first Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) in Uttarakhand. Accident victims within 150 kilometers of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh will be able to be airlifted to the medical facility by the HEMS, which will be based there.
“Work is in progress to assemble and certify the helicopter that will be used for this purpose. I have that on my dashboard. Now, it is solely my problem, not yours,” he declared.
Increasing Medical Outreach
The government’s plan to use helicopters to provide more trauma care and medical outreach services includes the HEMS. In order to guarantee that accident victims and patients receive vital care during the “golden hour” following an accident, this service attempts to offer prompt transportation from mountainous terrain to AIIMS.
Scindia stressed the significance of the HEMS, saying, “Once in service, helicopters will be based at AIIMS Rishikesh, with a 150 km operational radius.” This would guarantee that patients and accident victims from steep terrain are transported to AIIMS in a timely manner.”
In response to the state government’s request for air connectivity from Hindon Air Base to Pithoragarh, Scindia also announced the start of a new project.
According to the Economic Times, He said, “The bidding process for this route has been completed, and the specific route will be awarded after further investigation under UDAN.”
Confirmation of the New Airport Structure
Additionally, Minister Scindia gave Pushkar Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, assurances regarding the new integrated airport complex at the Uttarakhand airport. He reported that the assembly and certification of the helicopters for the AIIMS Rishikesh HEMS request are in progress.
‘Sanjeevani’ and UDAN projects
In response to the state government’s request for air connectivity from Hindon Air Base to Pithoragarh, Scindia also announced another project, which will house the HEMS and be operated under the project name “Sanjeevani.” This route’s bidding procedure is now over, and the chosen route will be given through the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) plan following additional study.
Benefits for Uttarakhand
Considering the difficult topography of Uttarakhand, these projects are anticipated to revolutionize the state. When they are in service, the people of Uttarakhand would greatly benefit from them, particularly in times of emergency and natural calamities.
The government’s commitment to enhancing the region’s healthcare infrastructure and services is demonstrated by the introduction of the HEMS and the growth of air connectivity, which will improve medical services and accessibility in Uttarakhand.
