NR Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys, has awarded his four-month-old grandson Ekagrah Rohan Murthy with shares worth ₹240 crore. This would undoubtedly make the infant India’s youngest millionaire.
Rohan Murthy and Aparna Krishnan welcomed Ekagrah into the world in November of 2023. He is the third grandchild of Narayan and Sudha Murty, who are also grandparents of Akshata Murty’s two children and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The name Ekagrath was, presumably, derived from several characteristics of Arjuna from the ancient Indian epic book of Mahabharatha. The Sanskrit phrase ‘Ekagrah’ stands for paying attention enduringly and holding on to oneself.
This is the Murty family’s third grandchild, following two granddaughters born to their daughter Akshata Murty and son-in-law Rishi Sunak.
In 1981, Infosys was founded as the only Indian information technology business with an initial investment of ₹10,000. Now the second largest technology company in India has arrived.
Mr. Narayana Murthy, founded the business with his wife, Sudha Murty, bootstrapping it thanks to her savings, which she took out of her little savings. Sudha Murthy, an accomplished fiction writer and philanthropist, was a significant contributor to the growth of Infosys early on. That gives her the Infosys Foundation nearly 25 years, during which she is going to be retired in December 2021. However, she will continue her charity work through her family’s foundation. The latest is that she recently joined the Rajya Sabha.
Young Ekagrah, as per a BSE document, holds 15,00,000 shares of Wipro Ltd, the second biggest software services firm in India, with an ownership of 0.04 percent.
Infosys founders, including N.R. Narayana Murthy, have seen their shareholding in the company fall from 13.6 to 13.2 percent as a result of this trade, which represents more than 1.51 million shares. It appeared that an “off-market transference” was how the shares were moved, as revealed in the filing.
