The popular instant messaging service WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, is apparently introducing a feature that enables users to new ‘Edit Messages’. Some fortunate beta testers currently have access to the new feature.
“We reported that WhatsApp was close to completing the last piece of the feature that lets users edit messages and that it would soon be made available to some beta testers. We can now confirm that certain users may be able to edit texts within chats and groups after installing the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.10.13 update from the Google Play Store, according to WABetaInfo, a website that analyses WhatsApp.
According to the report, users will be able to edit text messages by using the edit button from the message choices. There are currently no restrictions on how many times a message may be modified, however, this must be done within 15 minutes after sending it. Currently, messages sent from other devices cannot be edited.
Users may more easily determine whether a message has undergone revisions thanks to the label “edited” appearing inside the message bubble when it has been edited for everyone, according to the article.
Allowing message editing for a longer amount of time, such as one day, could jeopardize the integrity of the conversation because this feature is meant to help users rectify typing errors. It is important to note that, at present, this feature only supports editing text messages; other types of communications are not supported.
The article suggests that WhatsApp may have multiple changes in store for the edit tool in the upcoming months. After downloading the most recent version of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store, some fortunate beta testers can now modify messages, and more users will be allowed to do so over the next few days.
