Air India intends to establish a Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility and “create” Bengaluru as South India’s aviation hub. Air India would invest Rs 1,300 crore to execute maintenance, repairs, and refurbishment of planes at the Bengaluru airport.
Tata Group-owned carrier Air India and plane parts manufacturer Tata Advanced Systems will spend Rs 2,300 crore in Karnataka for a variety of initiatives, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced Monday.
Tata Group firms Air India and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) aim to invest ₹2,300 crore in Karnataka for various projects, providing employment for around 1,650 people, as revealed on Monday.
“As a result, 1,200 people will be directly employed, and more than 25,000 jobs will be created indirectly,” he wrote in a post on the social networking platform X.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil were among those who attended an agreement signing event in this respect. According to an official statement, Air India intends to establish a Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Bengaluru and “create” it as South India’s aviation hub.

TASL is planning to set up three projects with total investment of ₹1,030 crore — Passenger to Freighter Aircraft Conversion facility ( ₹420 crore), a gun manufacturing facility ( ₹310 crore) and Aerospace and Defence Research and Development in Karnataka ( ₹300 crore).
These projects would generate direct employment for 450 people, it said. TASL’s plans to source more than 50 per cent of its 13,000 parts from Karnataka for its gun manufacturing facility, which is estimated to provide employment to 2,000-3,000 people in 300-350 small and medium enterprises, it added.
