Ambareesh Murty, co-founder, and CEO of the e-commerce furniture and home products startup Pepperfry, died on Monday night in Leh of a cardiac attack. Pepperfry co-founder Ashish Shah verified the news on X (previously known as Twitter). 

“I am so saddened to inform you that my buddy, mentor, brother, and soulmate @AmbareeshMurty has passed away. He died of a heart attack in Leh last night. Please pray for him and his family and loved ones,” Shah posted on the forum.

On X (previously known as Twitter), tributes flooded in for the departed soul. Entrepreneur and podcast presenter Rajiv Srivatsa described Murty’s death as “shocking.”

“This is unbelievable. Being an entrepreneur is difficult enough. It’s more difficult to be one in a category like furniture and grow the Pepperfry brand over a decade. I’ve heard nothing but good things about him. Ambareesh Murty, rest in peace.  Heartfelt condolences to the team and family. “Prayers for strength for all involved,” Srivatsa stated.

Ambareesh Murty, an e-commerce entrepreneur, co-founded the online furniture and home products firm with Ashish Shah in 2012. Ambareesh worked as the Country Manager for eBay India, the Philippines, and Malaysia before to launching Pepperfry.

In this role, Murty aided eBay’s expansion by customizing goods and procedures to local needs while also providing a superior customer experience. He was also the vice chairman of India’s Internet and Mobile Association (IAMAI). 

He was formerly affiliated with the Levi Strauss India business as its brand leader. Murty was in charge of product development as well as the brand’s marketing and selling strategy. He also served as the marketing manager for Britannia Industries

Ambareesh Murty began his career in sales and marketing with Cadbury and then worked as the VP of Marketing and Customer Service at Prudential ICICI AMC (now ICICI Prudential). The co-founder of Pepperfry holds a B.E. from Delhi College of Engineering and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta.
