Indian refiners are required to close refineries every four years for maintenance and inspection.
India’s Bharat Petroleum Corp plans to close its 156,000 bpd Bina refinery in central India for maintenance around the month of June, two people familiar with the plan said.
The state-owned refinery is also planning to shut down half of its 240,000 bpd Mumbai refinery in western India over a period of three to four weeks from September to October for maintenance, sources said.
A BPCL spokesperson did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
sources said details of the closure plan were “provisional” and a date would be finalized at a later date.
“As of now plan is to shut Bina refinery from June 1, once Numaligarh (refinery) is back from its shutdown,” one of the sources said.
Indian refiners are required to close refineries every four years for maintenance and inspection.
Numaligarh Refinery Ltd plans to close its 60,000 bpd plant in the northeast in about 40 days before the end of April for maintenance, a company spokesperson told Reuters.
Sources said planned plant closures at BPCL’s refinery would not lead to shortages and the company would honor its supply promises.
