Canada will bestow citizenship to 300,000 individuals in fiscal 2022-23, which will benefit many Indians.
Canada has welcomed 116,000 new citizens so far in the year 2022-23 and is on the path to achieving its goal. During the fiscal year of 2019-2020, 253,000 citizenship applications were approved.
Decisions are those marked as Approved, Denied, or Incomplete after reviewing the application. The goal of citizenship signifies that 300,000 approved applicants must take the oath of citizenship in person or virtually.
In March 2020, the IRCC stopped processing most applications due to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. This was because the department could only process writing applications mailed to a central location. With all face-to-face events canceled, the IRCC was unable to interview candidates or take oaths at citizenship ceremonies.
This memorandum suggests that the IRCC continues to use its current, first-come-first-served system for all applications. This means keeping an eye on outdated paper applications and leaving room to prioritize a handful of digital applications to discourage backlog development.
By the end of this year, minors under the age of 18 can apply for citizenship online. Although there is no national classification, the main immigrant group settling in Canada in 2022 will be Indians.
IRCC says “It has taken steps towards clearing the backlog and processing 80% of all new applications within service standards. To do this, over 1,000 new staff have been hired and there are plans to expand access to the citizenship application status tracker to representatives.”.
