Rajnish Kumar will lead Mastercard’s South Asia executive leadership team, which will be managed by Gautam Aggarwal, Division President for South Asia and Country Corporate Officer, India.
On Thursday, September 14, leading credit card corporation Mastercard announced the appointment of Rajnish Kumar, former Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI), as Chairman of Mastercard India.
Mastercard stated in a statement that Kumar will lead the South Asia executive leadership team led by Gautam Aggarwal, Division President for South Asia & Country Corporate Officer, India, in navigating the local payments environment.
The seasoned banker has worked for India’s largest bank for over four decades. He held numerous senior positions at the bank, supervising vital operations in India, the United Kingdom, and Canada. He is also largely acknowledged for being the driving force behind the YONO platform. In October 2020, he will complete his three-year tenure as SBI Chairman.
Mastercard provides payment transaction processing as well as other payment-related services (such as travel-related payments and reservations). The firm has connections in 210 different countries.
“In this critical, non-executive advisory role, Kumar will guide Mastercard’s South Asia executive leadership team led by Gautam Aggarwal, Division President for South Asia & Country Corporate Officer, India, in navigating the vibrant domestic payments landscape”, Mastercard India said in a statement.
“Kumar will be keenly involved in augmenting the local leadership team in its efforts to expand our domestic footprint, while bolstering Mastercard’s ongoing commitment to forging strategic partnerships with stakeholders across the payments ecosystem – from banks to fintechs to governments, non-profits and more,” Ari Sarker, President, Asia Pacific, Mastercard, said.
