The new 42,000-sq-m facility is aimed at setting new benchmarks in operational efficiency and technological innovation, which will reshape the logistics landscape in the region. Dubai South states that the PDC uses advanced Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and a sophisticated racking system to optimize storage and order processing efficiency.

Some of the major technologies at this facility include Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) systems, Multi-Tier Mezzanines (MTM), Deep Selective Racking (DSR), and Cantilever Racking (CR). All these systems ensure fluid operations that maximize storage capacity and allow for easy order processing. The facility features 20 container docks, 10 in and 10 out, which enable simultaneous activities and quick turnaround times.

There was a high profile attendance of prominent officials, among them Khalifa Al Zaffin, the Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South; Kay Hart, President of International Markets Group at Ford Motor Company; Ravi Ravichandran, President of Ford Middle East; and Ako Djaf, Vice President of Contract Logistics and SCM for DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa.

“We are delighted to welcome Ford to Dubai South with the launch of its new facility. With the expertise and capabilities of DB Schenker, we are confident that this collaboration will bolster Ford’s expansion endeavors while delivering premium services to its customers across the region,” said Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District at Dubai South.

What this means is that DB Schenker is enabling Ford’s vision of operational excellence,” says Ako Djaf. “This new facility streamlines supply chain processes; improves customer satisfaction and dovetails with sustainability goals.”

The facility’s operations are anchored by DB Schenker’s implementation of SAP S/4HANA warehouse management software, ensuring paperless and highly precise operations through barcode scanning. Strategically located in Dubai South, the PDC consolidates Ford’s storage and distribution into a single hub, serving key markets across the GCC and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Improved Efficiency and Sustainability

The PDC has a 20 percent capacity increase over the previous model, significantly improving the management of inventory and the overall operation. The Vehicle Off Road (VOR) processing team focuses on critical parts and ensures no delay, enhancing customer satisfaction.

President Ravi Ravichandran of Ford Middle East called out the importance of the new facility, as the new PDC will create an even smoother, more streamlined, and more efficient process which has enhanced the parts availability and managed the optimal levels of the inventory and improves the customer service, unlocking those operational efficiencies will continue to build upon our promise of improving services and delivery times within the region.

Sustainability is a core focus of PDC, with a 400kW solar panel system set for installation in late 2025, projecting 35 percent reduction in energy consumption and reducing carbon footprint by 290 tons annually. It also incorporates responsible waste management practices, including recycling, then eco-friendly disposal.

This landmark collaboration underscores Dubai South’s commitment to advancing the region’s logistics capabilities while supporting the UAE government’s economic diversification plans.
