The next G20 summit presents India with a “great opportunity,” according to Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, to showcase a number of its strengths and exhibit leadership in connection to a number of the challenges the world is now experiencing.
Goyal is on a business trip to the US. He co-chaired the Wednesday gathering of the India-US Trade Policy Forum with US Trade Representative Katherine Tai.
“At the G-20, India will have a great opportunity to take the lead in addressing numerous global issues. It would be a wonderful opportunity for us to promote India’s many virtues, “he told reporters during a press conference on Wednesday.
India officially assumed the role of G20 President on December 1. The next G20 Leaders’ Summit at the level of Heads of State/Government will take place in New Delhi on September 9 and 10.
Terrorism, climate change, and the pandemic are the biggest challenges that can be faced via cooperation, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said that India will try to further foster oneness, inspired by the philosophy of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
In an essay that appeared in several journals and on his website, Prime Minister Modi said that India’s G20 objectives will be formed in collaboration with both its G20 partners and its fellow travellers in the global South, whose voices are generally disregarded.
The G20, or Group of 20, is an international gathering of the top established and emerging economies.
There are twelve countries represented: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union (EU).
S. Jaishankar, India’s minister of external affairs, called the country’s G20 presidency a “very big issue” and said it will be used for the sake of the whole international community.
In an address to the Indian diaspora this month in Vienna, Jaishankar said, “We are going to make sure that the richness of every place, every culture, every local food, and local items will be on show to the globe.”
