Delhi has a mind-blowing EV charging network constituting 2,300+ charging points and 200+ battery swapping stations.
One of the biggest benefits of driving an electric vehicle is its impact on the environment. Because clean electric vehicles do not have tailpipes, they emit no emissions, reducing local air pollution, especially in congested cities.
Delhi has registered 7,046 EVs with a year-on-year growth of 86%. Since the introduction of the electric vehicle policy, 93,239 electric vehicles have been registered with UT, of which two-wheelers account for nearly 55% of all electric vehicle sales in 2022.
In February 2021, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched the Switch Delhi campaign to spread the word about the benefits of these vehicles in making Delhi clean and pollution-free.
Thanks to electric vehicle sales in December, Delhi is close to its mission of meeting two-thirds of its target. The success of Delhi’s EV policy is due to the “i3” model of incentives, innovation, and inclusion.
“We have never restricted ourselves to one segment but have had a holistic view to make it a success,” Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot expressed.
“The government is also spending more than Rs 1,500 crores on the electrification of 56 depots for housing 10,000+ buses by 2025. I would like to thank all the stakeholders and Delhi citizens for making the Delhi EV policy a big success,” the minister added.
