On Thursday, HP Inc. announced a partnership with Google to produce Chromebooks in India.
According to a statement from the company, this agreement will advance a shared aim to promote the Indian educational ecosystem for digital learning and aid more students in enhancing their learning by offering inexpensive, secure, and high-quality computing equipment to educational authorities, schools, and institutions.
According to the company, these products will be produced at the Flex Facility outside of Chennai, where HP has been making a variety of laptops and desktops since August 2020.
On October 2, HP Chromebooks will start to be produced in order to meet the need for inexpensive personal computers (PCs) in India, particularly from the educational sector.
“Chromebook laptops made in India will make it simple for Indian students to obtain low-cost PCs. We continue to assist the government’s Make in India drive by growing our manufacturing capabilities, said Vickram Bedi, Senior Director of Personal Systems at HP India.
According to him, HP is dedicated to furthering digital equity and has spearheaded numerous projects to facilitate digital education across India.
According to the statement, Chromebooks are the industry standard for K–12 education and have benefited more than 50 million students and instructors worldwide. These ChromeOS-powered devices have built-in security and accessibility capabilities to strengthen classroom relationships and protect user information, it was claimed.
“Our efforts to help the ongoing digital transformation of education in India take a significant step forward with the local production of Chromebooks with HP. According to Bani Dhawan, Google’s Head of Education for South Asia, “We hope that this partnership will accelerate the adoption of technology in more schools, giving every student and teacher access to the resources and knowledge they need to realise their full potential.”
Since 2020, HP has dramatically increased the size of its Indian manufacturing facilities. The corporation began producing a variety of laptops in the nation beginning in December 2021, including HP EliteBooks, HP ProBooks, and HP G8 series notebooks.
Additionally, it added several kinds of desktop mini towers (MT), mini desktops (DM), small form factor (SFF) desktops, and a variety of all-in-one PCs to its inventory of locally produced commercial desktops. These products serve a variety of consumer sectors and offer both Intel and AMD processor options.
Previously, the debut of Gemini carried a lot of weight for Google. As it attempts to catch up following Microsoft-backed OpenAI’s unveiling of ChatGPT last year, which rocked the tech world, Google has increased its spending in generative AI this year.
