Earlier, Manohar International Airport was known as Mopa Airport.
Manohar International Airport was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on December 2022. As per the reports of PTI, On Thursday, a passenger flight arrived at the Manohar International Airport from Hyderabad. The airline that landed at Manohar International Airport was IndiGo.
Additionally, The Goa government had declared the opening of the Blue Cab service from today at the Manohar International Airport.
Ahead of the first arrival, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant held a meeting with Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho in Panaji on Wednesday to oversee the preparations.
“These cabs would be exclusively owned by locals of Pernem taluka where the airport is located,” Mauvin Godinho said.
“In addition to Blue Cabs, the airport will also have taxis affiliated with Goa Miles App and also those registered under the state-run Goa Taxi App,” Mauvin Godinho said.
Godinho further stated, local taxi drivers asked for permits for yellow and black taxis at the airport, but that was not possible, so the state decided to introduce blue taxis for them.
Rohan Khaunte said more than 1,100 drivers have signed up for the Goa Taxi app and the number is growing. The Goa Taxi app currently allows taxi drivers to line up at the airport. According to him, there are currently no reservations through the application.
“To fulfill the cherished aspirations of the people of the State of Goa, the Chief Minister of Goa conveyed the unanimous decision of the Cabinet of State Government of Goa to name the Greenfield International Airport, Mopa, Goa as ‘Manohar International Airport – Mopa, Goa,” an official release said.
“The Airport has been named after Late Manohar Parrikar, former Chief Minister and Ex-Raksha Mantri of Union of India in recognition of his contribution to building modern Goa,” the release added.
