MCL has become the largest coal-producing company in India. It is also the largest CSR Spender in Odisha.
Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a private limited company registered under the Companies Act and a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has produced 157 million tonnes of coal in Financial Year 2021-2022, becoming the largest coal-producing company in India.
On 12th March 2022, the company produced around 7.62 lakh tonnes of dry fuel which took the total produce to 157.7 million tonnes for the financial year 2021-2022. MCL has witnessed a growth of around 16% from the last financial year.
“MCL has to play a bigger role in ensuring energy security to the nation,” said the Chairman cum Managing Director, Mr. O.P. SIngh, in his congratulatory message to all the employees.
Surpassing all previous records, MCL has despatched over 166 MT dry fuel to the consumers, registering 22% growth over a previous financial year while it has also removed 195 MCuM (million cubic meters) of Over Burden registering 19% growth over the last financial year.
The Mini Ratna Subsidiary of CIL has been consistently performing better than previous years in terms of production except with an exception for FY 2019-2020. The coal production for MCL was 144.15 Million tonnes in 2018-2019, 140.36 Million Tonnes in 2019-2020, and 148.01 Million Tonnes in 2020-2021.
Besides now being the largest coal producer, the company is also the leading CSR spender in Odisha. In FY’21, MCL spent Rs. 205 crores under Corporate Social Responsibility.
MCL has also made efforts to improve connectivity in the past year. Last September, the chairman of MCL laid the foundation stone of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited’s Rs 285.05 crore first-mile connectivity (FMC) project of Lajkura SILO at Ib valley in Jharsuguda district.
