The e-commerce company intends to more than treble its employment in India to more than 80 people.
As part of its development goals and debut into the Indian market, Japanese e-commerce behemoth Mercari has established its first Global Centre of Excellence (GCoE) in Bengaluru. After Japan and the United States, India is Mercari’s third nation of operation.
In the following year, the firm plans to more than treble its staff in India to more than 80 people. It employs over 2,000 people across the world. The India team will concentrate on core product engineering and the creation of applications for the backend, mobile development, infrastructure, and other areas.
Mercari, which is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, claims to be Japan’s largest community-powered marketplace, with over 22 million active members.
“Working closely with the Japanese development team, which includes members from over 50 countries worldwide, Mercari India fosters an environment of cross-functional teamwork and knowledge-sharing,” the business stated in a statement.

Wakasa went on to say that Mercari began acquiring technological talent around 5-6 years ago and that India has been one of the most important locations from which it has been able to attract computer expertise.
“Over the past year, our team of highly skilled tech talents has played a pivotal role in driving innovation and enabling Mercari’s growth,” said Vish Magapu, senior director and Mercari India site lead. “Our goal is to create Mercari as a worldwide digital powerhouse by capitalizing on India’s diversified talent pool…Our India CoE is dedicated to building apps for Mercari Japan, reaffirming our commitment to providing seamless user experiences everywhere.”
