Microsofts AI-driven chatbot, Bing Chat is making its way onto platforms, like Google Chrome and Apples Safari expanding its reach beyond Microsoft browsers. By harnessing the capabilities of OpenAIs GPT 4 model Bing Chat offers an experience akin to that of ChatGPT. Users can now enjoy engaging in conversations on Bing.com or even receive pop-up invitations on Windows 10/11. This expansion aims to bring the chatbot to an audience and select testing is already, in progress.
Microsoft recently announced that their AI chatbot Bing Chat will now be available, on Microsoft browsers, like Google Chrome and Apples Safari. This expansion means that more users will have access to Microsoft’s ChatGPT-like AI chatbot, as it was previously limited to consumers within Microsoft products like the Bing mobile app and Microsoft Edge browser.
Caitlin Roulston, Microsoft’s director of communications, stated that they are currently testing access to Bing Chat in Safari and Chrome with select users before a broader release. Once the standard testing procedures are complete, they plan to offer access to even more users.
For those who gained access to the Bing AI chatbot on Windows, a pop-up appeared in the taskbar of Windows 10 or 11, inviting them to try out the Bing AI in Chrome. Instead, users have the option to open their preferred web browser and navigate to Bing.com. There they can simply click on the “Chat” icon. Begin interacting with the chatbot.
The ChatGPT-like experience of Bing Chat is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, but some users have reported limitations when testing the AI chatbot in other browsers compared to the original version. For example, in Chrome, the chatbot only supports up to five messages per conversation instead of 30, and the character count is limited to 2,000 instead of 3,000 in Microsoft Edge.
Furthermore, Bing Chat seems to be testing a native dark theme, although this feature is not yet widely available.
Bing Chat has been gradually expanding its presence, in Microsoft products since it was introduced this year. It can now be found in the Bing app and Edge browser for iOS, Android, and desktop users well as being seamlessly integrated with Skype. Microsoft has also recently unveiled an enterprise edition of Bing Chat offering data privacy and governance controls tailored to businesses. Furthermore, they have introduced Visual Search capabilities allowing the chatbot to provide answers, to queries related to images.
