Nirmala Sitaraman contacted a pre-budget meeting with finance ministers from all states and union territories to get their views and proposals for the upcoming 2023-24 budget.
Nirmala Sitaraman holds two important positions in the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Corporate Affairs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government headed by Narendra Modi, who is in his second term at the Centre. Before entering active politics, Sitharaman worked in the corporate sector after earning a master’s degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The meeting was held in the capital on Friday. In addition to Nirmala Sitaraman and the State/Utah Secretary of the Treasury, the meeting was attended by several departmental ministers of the Federal Treasury and Chief Economic Advisor Ananta Nageswaran.
Sitaraman has so far reached several panels of pre-budget advisory experts and industry leaders, including experts from the agriculture and food industries. The 2023-2024 budget will most likely be released on February 1st. Notably, this will be the last full budget of the Modi 2.0 government before the Lok Sabha elections to be held in April-May 2024.
