Procter & Gamble India will invest 2,000 crore to build a new personal healthcare manufacturing facility in Gujarat, which would serve as the company’s export hub. The plant will employ hundreds of people and produce items from P&G’s worldwide healthcare portfolio.
Procter & Gamble India will invest Rs 2,000 crore in Gujarat to build a new personal healthcare manufacturing facility. This will be their tenth manufacturing factory in India, producing well-known brands such as Ariel, Gillette, Head & Shoulders, Oral-B, Pampers, Pantene, Tide, Vicks, and Whisper.
According to a business statement, the new plant in Sanand will produce items that are part of P&G’s worldwide healthcare portfolio, particularly digestives.
“This facility will be operational over the next few years and is set to become a global export hub for P&G, as it will assist P&G India in serving consumers worldwide,” the company stated.
Furthermore, it will help create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, providing a huge boost to the local economy.
During a meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, P&G India CEO LV Vaidyanathan announced a new investment. The plant will expand P&G’s existing manufacturing base in India and is an MNC’s second large investment in the Indian FMCG sector in the last year.
The new facility “will use cutting-edge technology to produce superior products in the digestive wellness space and is designed to be fully automated in accordance with the modern concept of Industry 4.0.” This design makes use of cutting-edge technology, such as the latest vision systems for quality inspections, robotic equipment for material transportation, and operator cockpits, to name a few.
“The investment is being planned through an unlisted private company and has no impact on any of the P&G group’s listed public companies in India,” the company stated.
Nestle SA, a worldwide food and beverage corporation, announced intentions to invest ₹ 5,000 crore in India over the next three and a half years to accelerate its core business and capitalise on fresh development prospects earlier in September.
On 28th June P&G India and Flipkart Join Forces to Launch ‘Forests For Good’ Initiative
P&G India, known for its leading brands such as Pampers, Tide, Ariel, and Whisper, has collaborated with Flipkart, India’s premier e-commerce platform, to launch ‘Forests For Good’ in India, demonstrating their shared commitment to sustainability. This collaborative endeavour includes the planting of four forests in Karnataka that consumers can e-adopt, encouraging a sense of environmental responsibility.
P&G and Flipkart’s goal is to not only promote awareness, but also to involve consumers in this sustainable journey. Four thousand trees have been planted in Karnataka as part of the ‘Forests For Good’ programme, with the help of social company EcoMatcher and SayTrees as technological partners. This network, powered by blockchain technology, ensures traceability and complete transparency in tree-planting projects. Users can keep track of their chosen tree’s planting date, name it, watch its location and progress, and even compute the amount of CO2 it sequesters. From the 26th to the 29th, anyone who buys P&G items on Flipkart will be able to join in the project by adopting a tree.
“As India’s homegrown marketplace, we are dedicated to responsible and sustainable practises in every aspect of our business,” said Kanchan Mishra, Senior Director for FMCG, Home, and General Merchandise at Flipkart. We have implemented a number of efforts throughout the years, including the elimination of single-use plastic packaging, a pledge to achieve Net Zero by 2040, and the ‘Flipkart Green’ store dedicated to sustainable products. In the last decade, there has been a noticeable shift in consumer behaviour towards more responsible and sustainable practises. By fostering behavioural change in our consumers and society, we hope to encourage ethical consumerism in India. This collaboration with P&G enables Flipkart customers across the country to make a significant difference, boosting India’s commitment to a sustainable future.”
P&G also recently announced the installation of rainwater harvesting (RWH) equipment in P&G Shiksha-supported schools in nine cities as part of its water conservation initiatives in water-stressed areas of the country. This initiative, run in partnership with Round Table India, includes Kota, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Baddi, Udaipur, Bhopal, Chennai, Raipur, and Pondicherry. This initiative is consistent with P&G’s commitment to a water-positive future through sustainable practises and actions.
