The airport at Hollongi is costed on approximately Rs 955 crores with an area of 4100 square meters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first greenfield airport ‘Donyi Polo Airport’ today at Holangi in Itanagar. In 2019, Prime Minister Modi laid the groundwork for the construction of Greenfield Airport in Holonghi and opened the upgraded Teju Airport.
According to an official statement, Hollongy’s terminal was built at a cost of around RS 955 crore, covers an area of 4,100 sqm, and has a maximum capacity of 200 people per hour.
Arunachal Pradesh’s first undeveloped airport, airport was built on over 690 acres at a cost of over £640 crore.
“The airport terminal is a modern building, which promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy, and the recycling of resources. Donyi Polo Airport will be the third operational airport for Arunachal Pradesh, taking the total airport count in the North-East region to 16. From 1947 to 2014, only nine airports were built in the North-East. In a short span of eight years since then, the Modi government has built seven airports in the North-East,” stated by the official statement.
“Aircraft movement in the North-East has also witnessed an increase of 113 percent since 2014, from 852 per week in 2014 to 1817 per week in 2022,” added the statement.
It will be the first airport in Arunachal Pradesh to have a 2,300m runway suitable for takeoff and landing of one of the largest passenger aircraft, the Boeing 747.
