Sterlite Technologies, a broadband technology firm, revealed on Tuesday that it has obtained a multi-year order for around Rs 170 crore from Power Grid Corporation of India to build a unified network management system.
The company claims to have already supplied optical fibre cables and built a communication network for Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL).
We are thrilled to be working with PGCIL on the creation of a custom UNMS (universal network management system) for managing their large-scale utility networks.
We will provide a single infrastructure with centralised controls for their inter-regional networks.
The company reported an order book of Rs 11,700 crore as of December 31, 2021.
“The network management system, with integrated analytics, will bring in efficiency and effectiveness by setting superior standards in network operations management,” STL’s global business services CEO Praveen Cherian said in a statement.
STL has already supplied optical fibre cables and established an IP-MPLS network for PGCIL as part of previous contracts.
PGCIL owns and operates 90% of India’s interstate and inter-regional electric power transmission network, which spans 1,72,192 circuit kilometres and 72,126 kilometres of telecom network.
It is made up of 56% orders from India, 35% from Europe and the Middle East, 7-8% from the United States, and the rest from the rest of the world.

In Q3 FY22, the firm recorded a consolidated net loss of Rs 137 crore, compared to a net profit of Rs 86.64 crore in Q3 FY21. Revenue from operations increased by just 3.1 percent in Q3 FY22 to Rs 1,355.5 crore, up from Rs 1,314 crore in Q3 FY21.
