NEW DELHI: Puma, the German sportswear giant, announced the launch of its shopping app in India on Tuesday, making it the first country to go live with an app developed by the company.
“India is a critical market for us, and our local team has done an outstanding job in establishing Puma as the country’s number one sports brand.” Given that India is a very digitally savvy market with a high penetration of e-commerce, we felt it was only natural to launch the app here first. “It will then be rolled out globally throughout the year,” said Puma CEO Bjrn Gulden.
Virat Kohli, a cricketer, and Puma brand ambassador announced the app on his social media accounts.
With this move, Puma has renewed its investment in India as a high priority market, the retailer announced on Tuesday.
Puma reported a 68.2 percent increase in annual revenue to 2,044 crores for the fiscal year ended 31 December 2021. Last year, the company added 51 new locations, bringing the total number of locations in the country to 450.

To be sure, Puma’s online shopping platform debuted in 2016. Users will be able to purchase sneakers, athleisure, and accessories through the shopping app, which includes features such as virtual try-on and sophisticated 3D animations.
Because of the pandemic, more retailers are embracing technology and expanding their offerings across online and offline platforms.
“With the release of the PUMA app, we will provide our customers with a faster, more seamless, and convenient digital shopping experience.” “The app is powered by multiple technology-driven features, which will improve user experience,” said Abhishek Ganguly, Managing Director, Puma India, and Southeast Asia. For Indian users, the Puma app is available on both Android and iOS platforms.
