The BFI will use the funds to hold an international training camp in New Delhi in March ahead of the upcoming 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.
The Rural Electrification Company is a public company under the Ministry of Electricity. Its objective is to finance the development of electricity production and distribution in India. He particularly focuses on rural communities in India, where millions of people do not have reliable access to electricity.
The state-owned Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) has committed Rs 30 crore to the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) over the next three years to develop boxing in India.
As part of the support agreement, the BFI will use the funds to organize an international training camp in New Delhi in March ahead of the upcoming Indian Boxing Federation IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships 2023.
“We are delighted to have REC as a major stakeholder in our mission to develop Indian boxing and take the game to newer heights. Their commitment towards nation-building constitutes their core value and this is no different to BFI’s vision and goal of transforming India into a boxing powerhouse globally,” said BFI’s vice president and head of marketing, Debojo Maharshi.
Through this partnership, REC will also support international training camps for national boxers of all ages and foster grassroots development by empowering training academies and state-level coaches to shape the future of boxing in India.
The support agreement also includes improving grassroots advancement by developing young boxers and providing scholarships to the individual talent of all ages identified through national championships.
“This partnership will bolster our efforts in identifying fresh talents and taking the game to the furthest corner of the country in a much more deep-rooted manner. Our objective is also to explore if India can host more international camps and invite foreign teams just like the upcoming camp before the World Championships, which will help boxers not only to acclimatize but also get all-important sparring before the crucial tournament,” he added.
Boxing has exploded in India in recent years, with the country winning 140 medals in top international competitions. India has also recently climbed to third place among all boxing nations in the world rankings.
