In its latest report, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has projected major expansion in the renewable energy sector in the UAE and the active Middle East.” renewable energy generation is projected to expand at an annual average of 14% in this region, from 2025 to 2027, coming from a low base.” This increase will raise the share of renewable energy in electricity from a dither 5% to 7%.From Solar PV technology, to PV generation in 2027, the growth will be supported by over half from other sources currently.

In the Middle East, the UAE leads solar Energy Development operation of retail from 55% in 20205,it will extend to approximately 70%.” from 2025 to 2027, a growth rate of about 23% is expected for PV generation in the UAE, marking a major step toward the clean alternatives.”Nuclear generation has been increasingly contributing to UAE electricity two in the report: therefore, compared with 2024, nuclear power saw a boost of Harvey 20% year on year-in running features of the significant and august industry in the apple”.This growth compliment the ongoing effort through the UAE encompasses improving energy security while reducing the dependence on fossil fuels.

One of the biggest sources of power in the region has been, and continues to be even now, is gas-fired electricity generation, although there is Independence on renewable, also nuclear power. In 2024, gas-fired generation grew by 2.9%, and this growth is projected to accelerate to an average annual rate of 5.3% between 2025 and 2027. This increase is driven by government policies encouraging a switch from oil to gas, which will see gas’s share in the electricity mix rise from 68% to 73%.

The United Arab Emirates is actively positioning itself as a leader in the move toward a more sustainable energy future. It is making big investments in solar and nuclear power and modest adjustments to fossil fuel consumption to advance its commitment to lowering carbon emissions and wheat energy efficiency. The latest IEA report also adds to this positive narrative. The latest report adds several details such as the expanding role of the UAE as a driver of small energy transition in the Middle East and its growing importance in the evolving energy landscape of the region
