Namma Yatri, the ride-hailing app supported by Bengaluru’s Autorickshaw Drivers Union (ARDU), is introducing a subscription fee for autorickshaw drivers starting from September 1. Drivers will have two distinct choices: they can opt for an unlimited number of trips per day by paying Rs 25, or they can select the option of Rs 3.50 per ride, with no additional charges after completing 10 rides. This information was shared through an official statement issued by ARDU.
Within just one week of its launch, over 35,000 drivers have embraced these plans, with a remarkable 7,500 drivers having seamlessly completed the subscription process.
Notably, Namma Yatri has introduced a special promotion to kickstart the service, enabling drivers to pay a mere Re 1 per ride for the entirety of September. This particular offer has garnered participation from around 6,000 drivers.
The Namma Yatri app, meticulously developed by Juspay in compliance with the standards laid out by the Open Network For Digital Commerce (ONDC), made its debut in November in collaboration with the Beckn Foundation. This non-profit organization, endorsed by Nandan Nilekani, focuses on formulating open protocol specifications for platforms within the realms of mobility and e-commerce.
Expenses incurred by Namma Yatri encompass a broad spectrum, including engineering, research and development, marketing, and the incorporation of maps within the app. It is noteworthy that while Google Maps are free for individual use, they entail costs for commercial usage. The app’s trajectory involves a transition to open applications, aiming to curtail costs over time.
According to a comprehensive report presented by ARDU, a remarkable 88,800 auto drivers have registered on the Namma Yatri app, adeptly serving a user base of 17.2 lakh individuals. Since the app’s inauguration, these drivers have collectively undertaken a staggering 78.40 lakh trips, amassing an approximate revenue of Rs 116 crore.
Looking ahead, ARDU has a strategic plan to launch MetroMitra as a dedicated seller app on ONDC, exclusively tailored for Namma Metro users within Bengaluru. This app will seamlessly facilitate transportation to and from all metro stations across the city. To enhance convenience, QR codes will be strategically positioned near notable landmarks adjacent to metro stations. This initiative aims to enable passengers to effortlessly locate autorickshaws en route to the nearest metro station, without the need for an independent app.
