The Fire Safety Awareness Campaign is extensive in its reach, is aimed at the industrial areas of Sharjah and is designed to reinforce safety standards and reduce risk factors. The campaign, undertaken by the Sharjah Municipality in collaboration with a number of key authorities, aims to correct hazardous practices and ensure complete adherence with the indicators of safety.
Collaborative Steps Towards Safer Industries
The initiative is in collaboration with the Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Police, Civil Defense Authority, Department of Planning and Survey, and the Economic Development Department. These agencies are undertaking surveillance of industrial hubs, carrying out inspections, and taking legal and administrative action as needed. Also, field teams are conducting educational campaigns for business owners and workers to help them to most effectively implement safety protocols.
Major Goals and Concentration Areas
A key aim of the campaign is to ensure the correct installation and maintenance of safety systems in industrial facilities. Authorities are also clamping down on infractions that could impede emergency responses — particularly in the event of sudden fires. Key areas of focus include:
- Improvised Storage: Ridding facilities of random and unregulated forms of storing items for better management.
- Disposal of Hazardous Waste: Removing gas cylinders and other items that do not comply with approved safety standards.
By addressing these matters, the Fire Safety Awareness Campaign seeks to mitigate incidents and provide a secure work environment across Sharjah’s industrial areas.
Increased Safety Procedures Across the Emirate
This is part of an ongoing effort to make Sharjah a safer place to live and visit. The Civil Defense Authority also launched inspections of diesel storage facilities to ensure they meet safety requirements. In the Al Saja’a industrial area alone, 155 facilities were inspected and violations were issued to 15 companies and warnings to 10, with deadlines set for 90 to comply.
Meanwhile, in a significant move, Sharjah will replace all flammable aluminum building facades with fireproof aluminum building facades at a cost of Dh100 million.
Conclusion
The new fire safety regulation in Sharjah puts further significance on the Emirate’s sincere determination to protect the lives and properties of people living there. By working together, cracking down on violations, and investing in safety, the campaign is going to create a new benchmark for industrial safety. When communities are aware of hazards, they can prevent themselves from being a victim to any harm and this correlates with more stability in the economy as well, and Sharjah is doing just that by spreading awareness of these potential hazards.
