Swiggy and Zomato were ranked ninth and tenth, respectively, by the international research company ETC Group, which has its headquarters in Canada.
According to recent research, domestic online meal delivery services Zomato and Swiggy are among the “Top 10” e-commerce-based food delivery companies in the globe.
Swiggy and Zomato were ranked ninth and tenth, respectively, by the international research company ETC Group, which has its headquarters in Canada.
Meanwhile, Meituan, a company from China, Deliveroo, a company from the UK, and Uber Eats, a company from the US, respectively, took the top 3 spots.
The research company stated in a statement that “the food delivery industry refers to digital, on-demand platforms for ordering and paying for prepared food and, increasingly, groceries and other retail items.”
Within a specified timeframe, “Restaurants/Retailers fill the orders and couriers deliver them to customers,” it was said.
Zomato authorized the acquisition of fast-growing e-commerce company Blinkit for Rs 4,447.5 crore ($570 million) in an all-stock deal in June 2022. Zomato already held a stake in Blinkit of more than 9%. (earlier Grofers).
In the meantime, Swiggy, a division of Bundl Technologies Private Ltd, handles the delivery of prepared food (from restaurants), cloud kitchens, and groceries via Swiggy Go.
Even amid the sector-friendly conditions of the global pandemic, when delivery became more of a necessity than a convenience, the report stated that venture finance and technological investment had fueled the business.
It said, “The business model is being adjusted to go toward profitability — most noticeably by adding grocery delivery.”
