Tata Digital has launched Tata NeuSkills, a reskilling vertical, to help address the upskilling gap in the ed-tech market. With the pandemic accelerating the need for digital skills, Tata NeuSkills aims to offer two boot camp-based courses in data analytics and frontend development later this month, with more courses to follow.
Bootcamp-Based Courses in Data Analytics and Frontend Development
The new courses offered by Tata NeuSkills are said to be six months long and will require at least 15 hours per week from the learner. To become certified, a learner will have to complete a capstone project before being evaluated.
Tata NeuSkills is offering the courses for an ‘introductory price’ of INR 60,000, excluding tax, though the website mentions pricing of INR 1 Lakh + GST for the entire course.
Tata NeuSkills’ Short-Term Programme in Google’s App-Building Software Flutter
In addition to the long-term courses, Tata NeuSkills is also launching a short-term program for Google’s app-building software Flutter. This program is aimed at providing learners with the necessary skills to build a mobile application using Flutter.
Placement Opportunities
Learners that complete the courses with at least 80% attendance and at least 80% marks scored on MCQs and HOCs will get a chance to be placed at one of Tata Group’s companies or partner companies, including BigBasket e-grocery, 1mg, and Cult.fit, TCS, Croma, Air Asia, Westside, Tata Cliq and others. Tata NeuSkills also claims that based on the learner’s performance, they can bag a 40% hike or more after being placed.
During the course, learners will also have the option to intern at these companies for up to three months, allowing them to apply their newfound skills in a professional setting.
Tata Digital’s Second Edtech Play
Tata NeuSkills is the second edtech play across the larger Tata Group, with the digital classroom solution Tata ClassEdge being the first. The launch of Tata NeuSkills highlights the Tata Group’s commitment to addressing the upskilling gap in the edtech market.
Competing in a Crowded Market
Tata NeuSkills is entering a segment dominated by a handful of incumbents, including upGrad, Great Learning and Scalar in India, among others, especially in the data analytics and frontend development categories. However, Tata NeuSkills differentiates itself by offering learners placement opportunities at Tata Group’s companies and partner companies, which is not offered by many of its competitors.
Growing Demand for Upskilling
Upskilling has emerged as a major subsector within edtech recently, with more and more funding being pumped into startups operating there. According to Inc42 data, upskilling startups raised $164.61 million during 2022, up about 63% from $61.30 million raised in 2021. This growth is expected to continue, with the demand for digital skills being a crucial component of the post-pandemic world.
Conclusion
The launch of Tata NeuSkills highlights the Tata Group’s commitment to addressing the upskilling gap in the edtech market. By offering learners placement opportunities at Tata Group‘s companies and partner companies, Tata NeuSkills differentiates itself from its competitors in the crowded market of upskilling startups. With the demand for digital skills on the rise, Tata NeuSkills and other edtech startups are poised to play a crucial role in shaping the post-pandemic world.
