The government of Canada has canceled the 20-hour work week for international students, citing labor shortages.
Presently students can work for more than 20 hours a week along with completing their desired courses or degree. As per the latest records, 5,00,000 international students who are currently pursuing their desired degrees can work for more than 20 hours a week without any government intervention.
This policy will only apply to students studying full-time and will gain efficacy from November 15th through the end of 2023. Students say the 20-hour limit forces many to work longer hours without protection, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation.
The following are the desired criteria to start working as a Canadian Student:
- Mandatory holding of a valid study permit.
- Need of a Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Preparing full-time in their designated institute.
- The duration of the desired degree, diploma, or certificate must be at least six months from their respective academic, vocational or professional training.
