On Wednesday in Delhi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar paid a visit to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Jaishankar said he appreciated Mitsotakis’s dedication to strengthening the relationship between Greece and India.

On a state visit to India, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis landed in the country’s capital on Tuesday. At the airport, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakashi Lekhi greeted the Greek PM. Notably, the Raisina Dialogue 2024, set for February 21–23, will feature Mitsotakis as both the Chief Guest and the Keynote Speaker.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of External Affairs wrote on X, “We extend a warm greeting to PM @kmitsotakis of the Hellenic Republic on his first State Visit to India as he arrives in New Delhi. MoS @M_Lekhi at the airport accepted it. PM Mitsotakis will be the keynote speaker and chief guest at #RaisinaDialogue2024.
Senior government representatives and a powerful corporate delegation accompany Mitsotakis. Giorgos Gerapetritis, the foreign minister of Greece, arrived in New Delhi earlier to take part in the Raisina Dialogue. On Tuesday, he met with S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, and they talked about bolstering cooperation between Greece and India and Europe.
He will receive a formal welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan’s forecourt during his visit to India. There will be bilateral talks between Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Along with that, PM Modi will honour the visiting dignitary with a luncheon feast.
Remarkably, this is the first bilateral visit by a Greek Head of State or Head of Government to India in fifteen years; the previous visit by a Greek Prime Minister to India was in 2008. PM Modi travelled to Athens on August 25, 2023.
“Prime Minister Mitsotakis’s visit is expected to further strengthen and deepen the strategic partnership between India and Greece,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a news release.
The visit by Prime Minister Modi to Greece in August 2023 is noteworthy for elevating the relationship between Greece and India to a “Strategic Partnership.” Before going back to Athens, Mitsotakis will also make a trip to Mumbai.
