Today’s earthquake: On Thursday, further seismic vibrations were detected in Delhi. Afghanistan experienced seismic shockwaves from an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale.
Following a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that rocked Afghanistan on Thursday, there were aftershocks. The epicenter of the earthquake was 241 kilometers northeast of Kabul.
The National Center for Seismology tweeted, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.1, Occurred on 11-01-2024, 14:50:24 IST, Lat: 36.48 & Long: 70.45, Depth: 220 km, Location: Afghanistan.”
There were strong earthquakes felt in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and Lahore. The US Geological Survey reports that at 2:50 PM on January 11, the magnitude 6.4 Ritcher earthquake in Afghanistan was still visible at a depth of 206.6 km, 44 km SSW of Jurm.
The National Centre for Seismology reports that at 2:50 pm, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake occurred. The Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan is said to have been the epicenter of the earthquake. The Indian states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir were also affected by the earthquakes.
The epicenter was located 241 kilometers northeast of Kabul.
A tremor shakes some areas of Pakistan.
Parts of Pakistan were shaken by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0, the nation’s meteorological authority reported. As reported on X by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. At 2:20 PM (local time), a 6.0 magnitude earthquake at a depth of 213 kilometers impacted the Hindu Kush region.
The capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad, was also affected. Poonch in Kashmir was also badly impacted. There have not yet been any reports of fatalities or property losses.
The US Geological Survey’s team of experts determined that Jurm, in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan Province, was the epicenter of the earthquake.
Experts have earlier issued a warning about a significant earthquake in Delhi-NCR.
Many residents in Delhi and the National Capital Region experienced furniture shaking as a result of the earthquake, which spread panic. Many allegedly ran out of their homes and places of work, gripped by panic. No early reports of casualties or damage have been made as of yet, though.
