 1. Rebel Ridge

If you watch movies in the rebel ridge of action thriller movies, then you should not miss “Rebel Ridge.” Since its launch, this release has been on the apex of Netflix movies’ list, which explains why. This drama has Aaron Pierre playing the role of the protagonist, Terry Richmond, and ‘Rebel Ridge’ is the story of a man, who only wanted to post bails to his cousin and gets entangled with corruption and wrongdoings.

 What makes it worth watching:

Good showing by Aaron Pierre who comes out as the new action star.

Action lines including showdowns with the police officers accompanied by Don Johnson portraying a character of Chief Sandy Burnne

An interesting story of how an individual’s right to seek justice can be thumped down by forces larger than him.

Lo-fi in its polish yet packed full of frenzied car-chases and shootouts, “Rebel Ridge” seems to be Netflix’s homage to the Jack Reacher series. To say that Vigil is a frantic series is an understatement – it’s the perfect choice for a Friday night in when you’re in the mood for some adrenaline.

 2. Uglies

For all the fans of the young adult sci-fi genre, “Uglies” is the new addition to the Netflix young adult adaptations list. This film, adapted from the book of Scott Westerfeld, tells the story set in a world where people change their appearance using plastic surgery when they are 16.

Key features:

Starring Joey King voicing for the character of Tally, the girl who does not conform to the normal procedures.

Deals with questions of personal identity, submission to the group pressure, and accepting oneself.

Is filled with elements from the action/adventure genre, includes a romantic subplot, and deals with social issues.

An interesting twist on a world that is obsessed with looks will make the viewers hooked to the show and its unexpected plot; thus, “Uglies” is perfect for the viewers who are in search of a thrilling show that questions the existing norms and values.

3. Edge of Tomorrow

If you have not watched “Edge of Tomorrow,” which is also known as “Live Die Repeat,” then you have missed one of the best action movies of Tom Cruise. This sci-fi thriller built upon a time-loop narrative brings Cruise’s character back to the ground, where he has to fight through an alien invasion.

What sets it apart:

Great and original idea, which is mixing elements of time travel and extraterrestrial fighting.

(This may only be my opinion, but) Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt display great on screen charisma.

The scenes are good-looking, with the elevating visual effects and the high voltage action scenes.

In its premise inspired by the Japanese novel titled ‘All You Need Is Kill,’ ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ is an ideal mix of the elements of science fiction and military action. It is one of those stories that you will want to watch repeatedly since it’s more meaningful to pick up something each time.

4. Terminator 2

Regardless of the fact that over thirty years have elapsed since its release, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” is still an outstanding example of the action and sci-fi movies. In his follow up to ‘The Terminator,’ James Cameron increases all those factors that made the first film so brilliant, thus delivering not only the best sci-fi actioner of the nineties but arguably of the decade.

Why it’s still worth watching:

Septic and ground-breaking special effects with which the movie stands the test of time.

Classic acting by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Robert Patrick

An ideal blend of the physical activities, the feelings and sentiments, as well as, the intellectual stimulation in the form of themes.

If you were never able to see T2 or you’re doing so after a long time, then you’ve come to the right place. In many ways, it holds up as a lesson for every single large scale action film that has been produced since then.

5. Star Trek Beyond

The third movie in the Star Trek sci-fi series reboot movie franchise, that is Star Trek Beyond, does provide a new spin to the series. This movie is directed by Justin Lin, and if you remember him from the Fast & Furious franchise, you would know that he brings new life into the USS Enterprise series.

Highlights:

Reflects the pursuance of the unknown as seen in the series

A star studded cast anchored by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Karl Urban

Expands their fascinating cast with such heroes as Jaylah (Sofia Boutella).

Regardless of your standing, from an absolute lover of “Star Trek” series to a complete stranger to the universe depicted by the movie “Star Trek Beyond,”  the movie provides an exciting series of events blended in humor and emotions and presenting spectacular visuals.

6. The Deliverance: Supernatural Horror Meets Family Drama

For those who appreciate watching horror that comes with a side dish of sensitive issues, “The Deliverance” movie is a great example of supernatural horror linked with family issues. Since this film is set in the genre of supernatural thriller, the cast includes such celebrities as Andra Day and Glenn Close; the story depicts a family that confronts supernatural and other types of obstacles when they decide to enter a new home.

What to expect:

The cast put on a good show, especially from a well selected and compiled cast.

A sort of horror story that takes its time to bring about the horror.

Category: Family, addiction, and faith with strong elements of the supernatural.

Though “The Deliverance” has not been acclaimed by everybody at the festival, the viewers interested in the other kind of horror rather than the standard filled with jump scares should definitely take notice of it.

7. Pearl: An Introduction with a Twist

If you are a fan of Ti West’s “X,” the prequel to the recently released “Pearl” is a perfect fit for you. Set during World War 1, “Pearl” is a psychological horror film that tells the story of the character of the same name, portrayed perfectly by Mia Goth.

Why it’s a must-watch:

Pearl, played to perfection by Mia Goth, who is absolutely bonkers and terrifying in this film.

Bright cinematography, inspired by Technicolor, where the majority of scenes is inappropriately accompanied by the music of Ennio Morricone

It has a glamorous feel with elements reminiscent of typical look from Hollywood classics and, at the same time horror of the postmodern world.

“Pearl” is a graphic, but spellbinding story of the creation of a monster, designed for fans looking for character-based horror with a touch of black comedy.

 8. The Union

For a lighter twist, “The Union” offers action-comedy-romance all in one crackerjack. Mike McKenna, the main hero, is an ordinary man who becomes an agent of international secret service at the insistence of his high school sweetheart, Halle Berry.

What makes it fun:

She has chemistry with Mark Wolfgang and Halle Berry.

Action as well as funny scenes

Fish-out-of-water story since Mike has to start from scratch and learn how to be a spy

It is however, not clear that ‘The Union’ is trying to precisely reinvent the wheel, so for the casual viewer, when one is in the mood to catch some mildly thrilling, breezy interest with a touch of suspense, then ‘The Union’ does well to fill the bill.

9. Migration

From Illumination, the studio of the creators of “Despicable Me” and “The Secret Life of Pets,” comes “Migration,” featuring a family of ducks who set out on the journey of migration. Starring some of the best actors, such as Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Banks, and even Danny DeVito,  this movie is guaranteed to make moviegoers of all ages laugh and feel love.

Why families will love it:

Bright and cheerful animation and cute, funny characters

Essentially, values expressed through the movie are family unity and the willingness to go outside of comfort zones.

Jokes that are acceptable both by children and adults

10. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back – Tom Cruise in fighter top shape

While not currently on Netflix, it’s worth mentioning that “Jack Reacher: The film could have been titled “Never Go Back” is a good action packed movie for those followers of this kind of movie. Tom Cruise is also back to reprise his role as the leading ex-military investigator, who is seeking to solve a conspiracy.

What to appreciate:

Tom Cruise essaying the role of the straight-arrow ordinary Joe is an extraordinary Jack Reacher with remarkable energy.

 Well-choreographed action sequences

The jobs are so well designed, and the plot is so interesting indeed that the viewers are kept guessing throughout the show’s duration.

If you enjoy “Rebel Ridge” and are looking for more action-packed thrillers, keep an eye out for “Jack Reacher: Set on the unhygienic premise that you can never go back, you won’t find “Never Go Back” on other streaming platforms or rental services.
