Early on Saturday, a horrific bus accident in Telangana’s Jogulamba Gadwal district claimed the life of one passenger and left another injured. According to reports, the private travel bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Chittoor in neighboring Andhra Pradesh in the wee hours. There were approximately 30 passengers onboard.
It seems the accident occurred due to negligence of the driver who fell asleep while driving. As a result, he lost control of the speeding vehicle which then overturned on the roadside. In a freak twist of fate, the overturned bus also caught fire immediately. The trapped passengers struggled to escape the raging inferno, but the situation was made worse due to the darkness.
Eyewitnesses said many passengers were able to leap out of the bus windows and run to safety in the nick of time. However, one middle-aged woman passenger got her hand stuck during the chaos. Tragically, by the time help could reach her she had become engulfed in the flames along with the vehicle. Rescuers could only recover her charred body from the wreckage later. One other co-passenger received burn injuries while exiting and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Police officials are conducting further investigations into the exact sequence of events. They have registered a case of negligence causing death against the bus driver. It seems he had dozed off during the long overnight journey, endangering the lives of all commuters. If found guilty, strict action will be taken under the law. This unfortunate accident has underscored the importance of road safety and driver alertness, especially on long-distance routes.
