Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company(tsmc ) on Thursday announced that they are going to mass produce the 3nm chips in the coming years.
After Samsung achieved 3nm production six months ago. The Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company(tsmc) said that they have also achieved the ability to manufacture the 3nm chips . The chipmaker has said that they are building a 3nm capacity at its site in the state of Arizona in the united states, They are also expanding the 3nm capacity in Taiwan. They have said that the 3nm chips will be much faster than the 5 nm chips which is currently found in the latest iphones
The 3nm technology has the ability to add a market value of $1.5 trillion to global trade by creating electronics products. Additionally, the chipmaker have said that they are expanding the 3nm capacity at its Arizona site in the united states and expanding the 3nm capacity in Taiwan. although the Arizona fabrication unit is supposed to begin production of 4nm chips in 2024 and the second Us fabrication is supposed to begin the production of 3nm chips by 202. The chipmaker has also announced that their global R&D center in Taiwan will be open in the second quarter of 2023 which will have the capacity to provide employment to around 8000 people. The name of the R&D facility is Taiwan Hsinchu science park.
According to the enterprise, Its 3 nm chip-making process is the most advanced in the world in terms of power , performance and area(PPA) and in transistor technology. The company also added that they are preparing themselves to produce its 2nm fabrication units which is supposed to be located in hsinchu and central taiwan science parks, with a total of six phases.
According to Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company TSMC’S chairman Dr. Mark Liu “This 3nm Volume production and capacity expansion ceremony demonstrates that we are taking concrete action to develop advanced technology and expand capacity in taiwan”
