Elon Musk has raised the membership fee from $7.99 to $8 for customers purchasing it through the website, while iOS users will have to pay $11 for the same subscription if they purchase through the Apple App Store.
The Twitter Blue membership service will restart today. The news was made via the company’s official account, and the features that will be included with the membership were also highlighted. Elon Musk has raised the membership fee from $7.99 to $8 for customers purchasing it through the website, while iOS users will have to pay $11 for the same subscription if they purchase through the Apple App Store. The new subscription will also reinstate the blue tick verification method.
“We’re relaunching @TwitterBlue on Monday – subscribe on web for $8/month or on iOS for $11/month to get access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark 🧵” Twitter wrote in a tweet.
Twitter Blue has a long array of features. Elon Musk has kept his promise to provide color-coded checkmarks on the platform. The ‘Official’ badge will be replaced by Gold checkmarks, while government agencies will receive a Grey checkmark. The Grey checkmark, on the other hand, will be available later this week.
Twitter claims that Blue subscribers will receive capabilities such as Edit Tweet, 1080p video uploads, reader mode, and a blue checkmark (after the account has been reviewed). In terms of verification, the Blue checkmark will only be available to users who have a confirmed phone number associated with their account.
To avoid impersonation, Twitter Blue subscribers will temporarily lose their verified checkmark if they alter their name or profile. It will be reinstated only when the account has been evaluated again.
Previously, a blue tick was employed as a sign of legitimacy as a verification method for high-profile accounts. Twitter gave them away for free, but only the company selected who received one.
Mr. Musk claims that this was unjust.
Those who had a blue tick under the old regime still have them, however if the tick is touched, a notice appears claiming the account is a “legacy verified account” and “may or may not be notable”
According to Twitter’s own account, those check marks will soon be replaced by either gold (for companies) or grey (for others such as authorities) badges.
