Elon Musk’s company Twitter has introduced a new API (Application Programming Interface) layer for startups dubbed “Twitter API Pro” that costs $5,000 per month.
Developers will be able to get one million tweets per month, upload three million tweets per month, and have access to the entire archive search endpoint with the tier.
“Today we are launching our new access tier, Twitter API Pro,” said Twitter Dev on Thursday. “Experiment, build, and scale your business with 1M Tweets per month, including our powerful real-time Filtered/Stream and Full Archive Search endpoints,” the company says.
On Twitter, some folks voiced their opinions about this development.
“That’s great, but you’ve already killed most Twitter apps.” And 5K is still too far for the majority of us. A $1,000 plan could make sense… but it’s too late,” one person said.
“5k is like half of our monthly budget as a startup… quite out of touch pricing,” stated another customer.
Furthermore, one user stated, “No developer will ever trust Twitter again.”
Twitter announced its new paid API platform in March, with free, basic, and enterprise access tiers.
These three tiers are as follows: a basic ‘free’ level designed largely for content publishing bots, a $100 per month ‘basic’ level, and a costly ‘enterprise’ level.
