The Kolkata Metro’s East-West line, which goes from Salt Lake Stadium to Howrah, is 15 kilometers long.
The East-West Metro Corridor project, India’s first underwater metro service, is anticipated to be finished by December 2023, the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) announced on Friday.
The continuing underwater tunnel project is anticipated to be finished by December 2023, according to Shailesh Kumar, General Manager of Civil KMRC. The undersea metro project’s completion is being delayed by ongoing restoration work and other problems.
In order to make the challenging process easier, we have hired foreign expertise for tunneling projects and are currently using German machines from outside, the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation KMRC official informed ANI.
With this, Kolkata Metro, the nation’s first metro railway, gains another feather in its cap. The 1984-launched Kolkata Metro is currently being developed to serve the entire city and its surroundings.
It is important to note that the Kolkata Metro’s East-West line, which runs from Salt Lake Stadium to Howrah, is 15 km long. Karunamayi, Central Park, City Center, and Bengal Chemical are all metro stations along this line that runs from Salt Lake Sector-5 to Salt Lake Stadium.
Construction of the tunnel, which is located deep within the Hooghly River, costs about 120 crores per kilometer, but according to ANI, the cost of producing the tunnel has jumped to roughly 157 crores per kilometer.
The challenging task of building the tunnel has been taken on by Kolkata Metro Railway Corporation with the aid of German machinery and the top specialists. Inside the tunnel, work is still being done.
Many passengers will benefit greatly from the project’s completion because it will link the crowded Howrah and Sealdah railway stations as well as the Esplanade stop of the Kolkata Metro’s north-south route.
