Unilever plc is a British multinational consumer goods company with headquarters in London, England. The company has research and development centers in China, India, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Consumer goods giant Unilever appointed Hein Schumacher as CEO on July 1, replacing Alan Jope, welcomed by board member and activist shareholder Nelson Peltz.
Schumacher, 51, joined Unilever last October as a non-executive director and now heads the Dutch dairy company FrieslandCampina. Previously at Royal Ahold NV, Schumacher also worked for HJ Heinz for 10 years in the USA, Europe, and Asia.
Billionaire activist investor Nelson Peltz, who leads Trian Partners, said, “We strongly support Hine as our new CEO and look forward to working closely with him to deliver important sustainable value to our stakeholders.” Peltz joined Unilever’s board in July after it was revealed that he had acquired a stake in the company early last year.
“I first met Hein when I served as a director at the H.J. Heinz Company from 2006 to 2013 and was impressed by his leadership skills and business acumen,” Nelson Peltz said.
