The announcement for the civil service exam (CSE) 2022 has been released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The notification contains information on the application window, eligibility requirements, exam format, and the number of openings. The commission has announced a total of 861 vacancies. Candidates should apply online at upsc.gov.in or upsconline.nic.in.

The application period will close at 6 p.m. on February 22nd. On June 5, the UPSC will hold the Civil Service prelims 2022 test. Candidates who pass the preliminary examination will be invited to take the main examination.

Criteria for eligibility

For IAS and IPS positions, the candidate must be an Indian national. Others may be Indian citizens, Nepalese citizens, Bhutanese refugees, or Tibetans. Keep an eye out for the formal announcement.

Age restriction: Candidates must be at least 21 years old and under the age of 32. The reserved category has a lower age limit.

The candidate must hold a degree from a university established by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India, or from another educational institution established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or an equivalent qualification.

Pattern on paper

Papers I and II make up the preliminary test. Multiple choice questions with a total of 400 marks are asked in the objective type. A candidate must receive a minimum of 33% in the general studies paper – II to pass.

Negative scores account for one-third of the total marks for each question. The questions in Paper I are divided into seven categories: 1) science and technology, 2) history and culture, 3) geography, 4) Indian Polity, 5) Indian Economy, 6) environment and ecology, and 7) current events of national and international significance.
