The Centre opposes Hindustan Zinc’s $2.98 billion acquisition of Vedanta’s zinc assets.

According to a letter the government handed to the company on Monday, the Indian federal government is against Hindustan Zinc’s proposed $2.98 billion acquisition of Vedanta Ltd.’s zinc interests.

The announcement of the deal was made on January 19, according to the news agency Reuters.

The government owns around 30% of Hindustan Zinc, despite Vedanta being the company’s largest shareholder.
