The Tata Play combined plan gives subscribers access to Netflix, TV channels, and an OTT aggregator app at the same time.
Tata Sky has rebranded as Tata Play in order to expand its television-cum-OTT (over-the-top) capabilities in bundled offerings. The direct-to-home (DTH) network has added Netflix to 13 OTT services, including Amazon Prime Video and Disney+Hotstar, as part of its Binge packages.
The new combo packs, which start at $399 a month, will be available on January 27th and will be sold through a statewide campaign starring national stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan and R. Madhavan and Priyamani in the South.
According to a Tata Play news release, DTH subscribers will be able to access Netflix through Tata Play Netflix Combo packs, which will include a selection of Netflix’s Basic, Standard, and Premium plans. Subscribers will also be able to pay for their subscriptions using the Tata Play wallet. It simply means that you will have to add the costs of your Netflix subscription to your Tata Play wallet rather than paying for it separately.
Furthermore, Tata Play Netflix combo pack subscribers will be able to watch Netflix on their TV through the Tata Play Binge+ Smart set top box, as well as on any device of their choice, including Smart TVs, streaming devices, smartphones, and PCs. To mention a few, it already offers content from Disney+ Hotstar, Eros Now, and SonyLIV.
Notably, the operator collaborated with Netflix in 2018 to deliver content to its consumers, but the service never found its way to Tata Play Binge+, despite competitor Airtel Digital TV giving Netflix to its Xstream set-top box users from the start.
The Binge+ Smart set-top box costs Rs 2,499 (excluding monthly payments of Rs 299 for Tata Play Binge, which allows access to OTT apps) and has 1080p resolution, a built-in Chromecast, and a voice search Remote powered by Google Assistant. It provides live TV through satellite or the internet, as well as access to the Google Play Store’s 5000+ apps and games.
It has 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, and with the Tata Play Record Plan, it can record up to 25 hours of programming. For a monthly charge of Rs 299, the membership already includes access to services like Disney+Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, Zee5, and ErosNow.
It is possible to also access these services from the smart set top box if you already have a subscription to Amazon Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar, etc.
