The forthcoming needle-less ZyCoV-D vaccine is manufactured by Zydus Cadila, headquartered in Ahmedabad. It is the first ever vaccine in India receiving EUA (Emergency Use Authorisation) for being delivered to the children of 12- 18 age group.

The government is reportedly observed to be working with Zydus Cadila to discuss and fix the price of the upcoming vaccine. Also, it is brought into notice that the vaccine is expected to be launched on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2.

The all-new ZyCoV-D vaccine is perhaps a DNA vaccine, developed by Zydus Cadila in collaboration with the department of biotechnology, which produces the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 aiming to induce an immune response. On disclosing some information about the vaccine, the producer said that it was an intradermal vaccine which is injected into the dermis layer of the skin and would be administered by using a needle-free injector. It will help avoid side effects in the body.

Dr. VK Paul, a physician scientist member of NITI Aayog, disclosed that the Zydus Calida vaccine will be launched in early October as the work is in progress. He said, “We are looking forward to receiving recommendations of the NTAGI on the beneficiary or target group to which the vaccine has to be given.

Although there is no official announcement, ZyCoV-D vaccine is anticipated to start its testing of mRNA vaccine.

The country is currently operating with the vaccines- Covaxin, Covishield and Sputnik V produced by Bharat Biotech, the Serum Institute of India and Gamaleya Research Institute of Russia respectively.

India approved the world’s first DNA vaccine Zydus Cadila vaccine for emergency use in August this year. The three-dose vaccine has prevented symptomatic disease in 66 percent of those who got vaccinated. What stands this vaccine out is the fact that it is the world’s first ever human DNA vaccine to battle against Covid-19. Apart from that, it is India’s first go on administering needle-free Covid-19  vaccine for emergency use.
