Facebook is betting evidently on the metaverse or a 3D virtual space which will allow people to share experiences in a technology-driven virtual environment.
CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of tech giant Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg announced on October 28, 2021, that the parent firm of the company’s family of platforms will be known as Meta. The company has changed the name with the view of reflecting its pivoted focus on building a metaverse which intends to fade the lines between the physical and virtually created digital world.
Facebook is betting evidently on the metaverse or a 3D virtual space which will allow people to share experiences in a technology-driven virtual environment. The development was confirmed by Chief Product Officer of Facebook Chris Cox on October 29, 2021.
Zuckerberg introduced ‘Meta’ at Facebook Connect 2021, the company’s annual developer conference.
As stated in a Founder’s letter by Zuckerberg on October 28, 2021, it is disclosed that the standout and the describing quality of the metaverse will be a “feeling of presence” delivering the experience of a user being there with another person in another place. He said feeling undeniably present with another person is the ultimate dream of social technology.
He further informed that the metaverse will allow people to do almost anything one can imagine including experiences like getting together with friends and family, work, learn, shop, play, create, as well as delivering new experiences that do not align with the people’s view on computers and phones presently.
He further added that the company has also made a film that makes people familiar with how one might use the metaverse one day.
It is also brought into notice that except Facebook’s parent firm, the individual apps including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram’s name will remain unchanged as these will be known as they are.
The global tech giant was in talks earlier in October 2021, to be planning on changing the name of the company in order to signify its goal of acquiring recognition of more than just a social media platform and to battle all the denunciations Facebook has been accused of.
Facebook also announced that the company was sketching out plans to create ten thousand new high-skilled positions in the European Union over the upcoming five years to build the metaverse. The company has already opted out target markets for hiring including the Republic of Ireland, a part of the European Union, Italy, Germany, France, Netherlands, Spain, Poland, etc. as reported by Bloomberg.
The company has been observed making significant efforts to promote the idea of metaverse. Zukckerberg is constantly spearheading the company’s focus on developing a next-generation technology-driven space. It is undoubtedly believed that it will be a noteworthy contribution to the unprecedented evolution of the internet and the virtual world.
